Kamala Harris's Past Remarks on Utilizing DOJ Against 'Misinformation' Resurface

It's widely known that Kamala Harris is ambitious and assertive. A video from May 2019 has recently resurfaced, showing Harris discussing the possibility of using the Department of Justice (DOJ) to combat speech the government finds disagreeable and the platforms that enable it.

Harris at the NAACP 'Fight for Freedom Fund' Dinner

Harris made these remarks at the annual NAACP 'Fight for Freedom Fund' dinner in Detroit. She stated, "We will restore the United States Department of Justice to its rightful role in delivering justice. We will double the size of the civil rights division and instruct law enforcement to counter this extremism." She continued, "We will hold social media platforms accountable for the hate that permeates their platforms because they have a duty to help combat this threat to our democracy. If you profit from hate, if you serve as a conduit for misinformation or cyber warfare, if you fail to monitor your platforms, we will hold you accountable as a community."

Subsequent Actions by the DOJ

Following these remarks, the DOJ sought to drastically revise Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act in order to curtail the extensive immunity granted to social media platforms. In addition, millions were spent on 'misinformation' czars, some of whom were later disbanded. The DOJ prosecuted a man who created a meme about Hillary Clinton suggesting people could vote via text, but did not take action against a Democrat who did the same.

Actions by the Biden-Harris Administration

The Biden-Harris administration has been active on this front as well. They infiltrated Twitter to censor COVID 'misinformation' and the Hunter Biden laptop story, even paying for this service. The Surgeon General under Biden-Harris called for social media platforms to censor 'misinformation' during the pandemic. The administration's transgender HHS Assistant Secretary also demanded that social media platforms censor "misinformation" about "gender-affirming care" for minors. A leaked 2022 FBI pamphlet categorized 'Misinformation' and 'Disinformation' as 'election crimes'.

Bottom Line

This resurfaced clip of Kamala Harris discussing the potential use of the DOJ against 'misinformation' raises questions about the balance between combating harmful misinformation and preserving freedom of speech. It's a complex issue that warrants thoughtful discussion. What are your thoughts on this matter? Feel free to share this article with your friends for their input as well.
