Significant Majority of Voters Urge CBS to Disclose Complete Kamala Harris Interview
A significant majority of voters, nearly 90%, are urging CBS to disclose the full transcripts of Kamala Harris' '60 Minutes' interview, which they believe was manipulatively edited to portray her in a more intelligent light.
Harvard Harris Poll Reveals Voter Opinions
A recent Harvard Harris poll reveals that 87% of Democrats, 88% of Republicans, and 80% of independents believe that CBS should "release the full transcript of its interview with Kamala Harris." Furthermore, 81% of Republicans believe that CBS edited the interview to enhance Harris' image. This opinion is shared by 50% of independents and 27% of Democrats.
Controversy Over CBS' Editing of Harris' Interview
CBS faced criticism for allegedly editing Harris' interview. The network is accused of replacing her convoluted response from a pre-interview teaser with a completely different answer in the version that aired. When asked by host Bill Whitaker about the perceived lack of attention from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu towards the United States, Harris initially responded:
"Well Bill, the work that we have done has resulted in a number of movements in that region by Israel that were very much prompted by, or a result of, many things, including our advocacy for what needs to happen in the region."
However, in the aired version, Harris' response was: "We are not going to stop pursuing what is necessary for the United States to be clear about where we stand on the need for this war to end."
Trump Campaign Calls for Full Interview Release
In response to the controversy, the Trump campaign demanded that the network release the full interview. Karoline Leavitt, the Trump campaign's national press secretary, questioned CBS' decision to not air Harris' full response and what else they chose not to air. She asserted, “The American people deserve the full, unedited transcript from Kamala’s sit-down interview. We call upon 60 Minutes and CBS to release it."
The former president also addressed the issue on Truth Social, suggesting that the network's alleged assistance to Harris could be a "major Campaign Finance Violation," and a "stain on the reputation of 60 Minutes that is not recoverable."
Bottom Line
The controversy surrounding the alleged editing of Kamala Harris' interview by CBS has sparked a widespread demand for transparency from the network. With a significant majority of voters across party lines calling for the release of the full interview, it's clear that the public values unfiltered access to political discourse.
